Overview
This sightseeing tour includes three revered, Beijing attractions. Traveling with yourown, English speaking guide learn first-hand about the history and cultural importance of each site visited- a perfect introduction to each of these. Your tour startswith a visit to Tiananmen Square and some of the halls that flank both its sides.From there you’ll enter The Forbidden City, the largest palace complex in theworld and until recent history off limits to all but a privileged few. Thentravel outside of Beijing to explore the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall ofChina, a section of the wall that is known for its diversity as well as itbeing one of the best preserved. Travel between sites in the comfort of yourown air conditioned vehicle. Included are hotel pick up and drop offs in aprivate, air conditioned vehicle, all entrance fees, tickets for the return cablecar or chair lift, or chair lift up /toboggan ride down at the Great Wall, aswell as lunch in a local restaurant.
What to Expect:
Your tour begins in the morning with a pick up at your hotel, in a private vehicle and a visitto Tiananmen Square, at 440,000 sq meters, the largest public square inthe world.
Once in the square you’ll visit the halls that flank both the east and westernsides of the Square, the Great Hall of the People, (Renmin Dahuitang), located at the western edge of the Square and used for legislative and ceremonialactivities by the People's Republic of China (PRC), Beijing’s premier museum, theNational Museum of China, (formerly known as the National Museum of ChineseHistory and the Museum of the Chinese Revolution) and Chairman Mao's Mausoleum.
Yourvisit then takes you through the Meridian Gate, the formal entrance to TheForbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage site, formally known as The ChineseImperial Palace, where you’ll spend a couple of hours exploring this impressiveand historically important complex. It’sthe largest palace complex in the world. Your guide will show you through thepalace and its gardens and on route provide some interesting insights into Imperiallife. A total of 24 Emperors lived and ruled from here, starting with the Mingdynasty and ending with the Qing.
Beforecontinuing your tour to the Great Wall you’ll be taken to a local restaurant tosample some delicious dumplings, a Beijing favourite. After lunch you’ll travelto the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, a 1.5 hour drive out of the city,where you’ll have about two hours to mount the ramparts, view the Watch Towers andgaze over the breathtaking scenery. This section of the wall is considered oneof the more diverse, as well as being one of the best preserved sections of thewall. It’s also a typically less-crowded section, and a section recommended asbeing the most family friendly, a section that’s easier for those with young childrento navigate.
TheGreat Wall dates back to the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-557). Then again it wasrebuilt in the Ming Dynasty, (1368 -1644) to provide a protective defencebarrier to guard the capital and imperial mausoleums from invaders.
Onarrival at the wall, your tickets will be purchased and your guide will takeyou to the entrance to mount the ramparts.
Your fully inclusive tour, as the name suggests, includes the return tickets bycable car or chair lift or the alternative combination route of chair lift up/toboggandescent. The cable car takes you to the northern entrance and alights at WatchTower #14. The chair lift takes you to the southern entrance and alights atWatch Tower # 6. Once on top of theramparts your sightseeing experience commences.
Shouldyou choose to adjust these tickets and do a round trip on the ramparts, forinstance mount the ramparts by cable car and descend via the chair lift ortoboggan or vice versa that can be accommodated. Please see the additionalinformation for details.
Afteryour hike along the Great Wall and descent you’ll be driven back to your centrallylocated hotel in the city.
